Question 4- Who would be the audience for your media product?

Who would be the audience for your media product?

For this question I thought that the best way to answer it would be to actually talk to the audience. I asked 3 girls ages 16-17 the questions below and recorded their responses.
I decided that this would be the best way to gain information on the selected questions. It would also visually show what the audience i aimed at looked like and there personal opinions on the questions I asked.

Focus Group questions-
  1. When you look at this magazine what age range would you say it’s aimed at?
  2. What kind of person would you say it was aimed at? What would there clothing be like or hobbies?
  3. What would you say was the main genre of music you listen to?
  4. Do you think there is already something like this on the market?
  5. Do you think that the competitions and stories on the contents page are relevant to the target audience?

Here I have put in the results from my original survey which can be compared with the questions I got for after the product was complete- in my focus group.
When the the answers are compare we can see that the answers are fairly similar,

Changing my DPS

I decided to edit my double page spread further as I wasn't happy with it. I have changing it by changing the background colour and adding more quotes, and overall making it look more professional.

My Article

Stereo Folk; Jess, Beth and Sam, are an up and coming indie-folk band from Yorkshire, England.  The 18 year olds grew up together in a small town in the countryside where their parents joint music influences inspired them to become part of this unique music sound which has become a thing of trend.
Although this band is only know in small circles at the moment they are set to tour with the likes of Birdy and Ben Howard in 2015. This band may be small now but with the rise of their genre they’ll be known in much bigger circles by the end of the year.

How would you describe your musical journey so far?
Jess: Well I’d say that its been fun but like every other artist out there we’ve definitely had ups and downs and probably many more to come.
Sam: Yeah definitely I mean nobody says that this industry is easy and I couldn't agree more, we didn't originally start off wanting to sell our music, just wanting to perform but when an agent came to us after seeing a gig, we just couldn't refuse.
So you say you didn't originally want to be in the industry, what made you want to give it a shot?
Beth: Well its our dream to perform and just carry on making music forever and I guess this is the best way to just do music and not just have it as a hobby.
Jess: I guess we just want to make people more aware of how great this genre can be and if we can have the smallest impact on that then that would be great.
What are your plans for 2015?
Jess: We’ve actually made a lot of plans for next year, its really exciting. We’ve just recently confirmed to support Ben Howard on a few of his tour dates which is huge, we’re all such big fans of his and it’ll be great to get some advise from his perspective.
Sam: We also have some studio time coming up to put together an album. Our new single has just been released and the reviews have been pretty positive, so we’re hoping to carry on from that.
Beth: And touring with Birdy early on in the year will be a good time, I mean we’re all a similar age and she went through fame pretty young, I mean she’s an incredible talent and it’ll be great to work with her and she can  maybe give us some tips for our first album.

Did you ever think that the single would have such a good response?
Sam: Well its not gone massively mainstream or anything but we did manage to get onto the UK top 40 for a while which was huge, we’re hoping to improve with time and I think that our new stuff will be even better.
Jess: We know that even getting noticed for a first single is a massive deal and we we’re thrilled with the reviews from some really influential critics and we definitely took some criticism in stride, and we’re extremely grateful that people even took the time to listen to the song.
Do you think its harder being in a band compared to going solo?
Beth: Yeah I think it’s a lot harder in the fact that some people just don’t want to sign a band and I guess they just don’t think they sell as well. I think in our genre though it’s a lot more expected as we actually all play instruments and all bring different factors to the band. Also getting to do the thing you love with your best friends is a huge bonus.
What would you say are your long term goals?
Jess: We have big plans for the long term. We want to do it all, albums, world tours, big awards. Everything.
Beth: I mean that’s what its all about isn't it? Trying to be the best  you can be in what you love doing. I’d say we just want to be doing this for as long as possible and all those things will allow us to do that as well as share what we love doing with the world.
Stereo Folk’s new single ‘Hart’ is out now.
